Are You Ready for Your Hearing Aid Fitting?

Make the most of your hearing investment with a personalized fitting experience.

You’ve taken the first step toward better hearing by choosing to invest in hearing aids. Now, it’s time to make sure they’re programmed, adjusted, and fitted specifically to your hearing needs and comfort level.

At Earvanna Hearing Centers, we take your fitting seriously—because it’s where great hearing results begin.

What to Expect at Your Hearing Aid Fitting

Your fitting appointment typically takes about an hour and is led by one of our experienced hearing specialists. During your visit, we will:

  • Test both the physical fit and the sound performance of your hearing aids

  • Program your hearing aids based on the results of your hearing test

  • Review the features and functions of your devices, including connectivity and personalization tools

  • Discuss daily care and maintenance, including how to clean, insert, and store your devices properly

  • Schedule a follow-up to fine-tune sound settings and answer questions after you’ve had time to use them

Tip: If you’re concerned about understanding the instructions due to hearing difficulty, consider recording part of the fitting session on your phone for reference later.

Understanding Real Ear Measurement (REM)

As part of your fitting, we perform a Real Ear Measurement (REM)—a gold-standard technique recommended by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the American Academy of Audiology.

Here’s how it works:

  • A small microphone probe is placed inside your ear canal

  • We measure the sound levels reaching your eardrum without the hearing aid

  • Your hearing aid is then inserted and turned on, and test sounds are played at different volumes

  • We compare the amplified sound to your specific hearing prescription to ensure it’s accurate and comfortable

This process ensures your hearing aids are giving you precise, personalized amplification, and helps prevent discomfort from overly loud sounds.

After Your Fitting: Adjusting to Life with Hearing Aids

Hearing aids are highly advanced, but your brain still needs time to adjust to processing sound again—especially if you’ve gone years without hearing certain frequencies.

We recommend:

  • Wearing your hearing aids daily, even in quiet environments

  • Starting with a few hours a day and gradually increasing

  • Trying simple listening exercises like reading aloud, watching TV with subtitles, or practicing in different noise settings

If you notice discomfort, distortion, or volume issues, your follow-up appointment is the perfect time to make adjustments.
